The Mexican Grand Prix of Formula 1 officially began this Friday with Practice 1, and it didn't take long for the first incident to occur on the track at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Williams driver Alex Albon was involved in an incident with 37 minutes remaining in the first practice session after losing control of the car at the exit of a curve and crashing into Ferrari's Oliver Berman, who replaced Charles Leclerc.
The collision caused the rear axle of the Ferrari to be destroyed and Albon's car ended up crashing into the barrier, triggering a red flag and stopping all activity on the track. Fortunately, both Albon and Berman were unharmed, although both had to retire from P1.
Regarding Alexander Albon's performance in the 2024 season, it has been challenging for the Williams team overall. Of the 19 races held to date, the Brit has not managed to reach the podium, has suffered four retirements, and his best position was seventh place at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, accumulating only 12 points in the drivers' championship and sitting in thirteenth position.
The incident in P1 of the Mexican Grand Prix has been a blow for Albon and the Williams team, highlighting the difficulties they have faced during the season. Despite the complications, the British driver will seek to redeem himself in the upcoming sessions and make up ground in the overall standings.
